I can play music in other ways without getting a reboot (e.g. internet radio through pandora.com). I can also play memory demanding video games(e.g. FEAR, Supreme Commander) for hours without any reboot. Is this a hardware problem, or something else? Opening iTunes is fine, it is just while I'm trying to play music. After anywhere from 0-45 minutes, the computer will reboot. I can create CDs and update my iPod with no problems. I have experienced no other problems with my machine while not playing music with iTunes. ratchethatchet Posted July 3, 2007 Author Report Share Posted July 3, 2007 This seems to be completely unrelated, but I have started experiencing the same reboot problem when I play Chessmaster 9000. I recently installed it and it crashes and reboots the computer after a random amount of time. I tried turning off auto-reboot on system failure (from the control panel), but this made it only so that it flashes the BSOD too quickly to read and then reboots. I tried getting it to reboot again with iTunes and the events were almost exactly the same.Under system, there were the same 3 events (the multiprocessor, event service, and Save Dump events). However, there were also 6 error events I think when iTunes first started (6 minutes prior to crash). I tried sending the Microsoft error report after booting up, and it told me I had a hardware problem. It said there were 4 likely candidates:1) RAM2) System board3) CPU4) Power supplyIs it possible that problems with the RAM would cause cli.exe errors w/ the video card in an indirect way? I'm pretty sure it's not 3) or 4). I've run CPU stress tests and I have a very nice power supply. I feel like I should try two things now: put in a different video card and see what happens, or put in different RAM and see what happens. What do you think? Coreper Posted July 8, 2007 Report Share Posted July 8, 2007 changing the RAM would be a good option [try that with and without leaving the videocard in the computer]make sure to replace the RAM with RAM where you are sure of that it worksi would just remove the videocard, so your computer reverts to the build-in videocard, which mostly works fine.that way you dont have to go through all the trouble of uninstalling, reinstalling, uninstalling and reinstalling drivers Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
ratchethatchet Posted July 8, 2007 Author Report Share Posted July 8, 2007 I was a little stupid last time i tried installing the drivers, because i forgot to uninstall the OLD ones. So, I tried it again. I tested my computer with no ATI drivers whatsoever, and it did not reboot at all. I then installed the latest drivers, and the problem came back. What does this mean?
