squishio Posted May 24, 2007 Report Share Posted May 24, 2007 hi all I really hope you guys can help.ok we have a server which is used for dictations (winscribe if you've heard of it.)so it restarts it's self occasionaly when it gets updates etc.but when it starts up again one of the services/programs doesn't start which is essential for people to import dictations its called winscribe importer.so because of this I have to check it each morning which is really annoying.so i was wondering if there is a program out there that could send me an email when certain services arn't running.any help would be great. mcb2001 Posted May 24, 2007 Report Share Posted May 24, 2007 how about simply adding a shortcut to the programs, in the [start menu - programs - start] folder, so it run on each boot?And if its a true service, you can add it through the registry, post back here if you need instructions on how to do so, in case the other suggestion dont work... squishio Posted May 24, 2007 Author Report Share Posted May 24, 2007 it's allready in the start up menu.but something i forgot to mention, is that the server is not regularly logged into therefore if it restarts and no one logs in to it then the startup items won't load.I am doing a test by putting a scheduled task which will run the .exe at 8:00 every day but I'm not sure if it'll run if no one is logged in.so if that don't work then what about this registry idea.? mcb2001 Posted May 25, 2007 Report Share Posted May 25, 2007 the problem is actually something completly different...You gotta have an Auto login, in order for the server to actually start up, and get past the login window...So here is an idea, setup a "dummy" account, and have the computer log in to that account on boot.Then if someone needs the computer, they can "change user" and still have the dummy running, so the server is available even through login (only do so, in case you need it all 3600 seconds per hour, and cant handle the 1 minute down time while loging in and out)...
