Windows2000 User Account question

Hi everyone, I'm new to the site and I'm glad you're all here....This seems like a great forum.

Anyhow, I did lots of searches to find the answer to my question, but with no luck.

My girlfriend is running windows2000 and she wants to know if there is a way to deactivate the guest user account. She has the main account (the admin) setup and when the computer starts up, it asks for a password. But if you select cancel instead of typing in a password, it automatically logs into a guest account. Is there a way to disable that? She just doesn't want people using the computer other than herself (by typing in the password).

Is there a way to disable the guest? or maybe way to limit what the guest user can access or change?

I'd appreciate any input. Thanks in advance!

I don't have a real Windows 2000 any more (only under Virtual PC), so I can't test the scenario. However, I don't think that this should happen - if you click 'Cancel', it should go back to the Ctrl-Alt-Del panel.

Anyway, I think you should be able to disable the Guest account. On XP you do the following

• Control Panel
  
• User Accounts
  
• tab Advanced
  
• Advanced user management - click 'Advanced' button
  
• Local users and groups - click 'Users'
  
• right-click 'Guest' and select Properties
  
• check 'Account is disabled'
  

It might be slightly different for Win2K, but not very much. Let us know if it doesn't work out.
