ted.stevens Posted June 9, 2007 Report Share Posted June 9, 2007 Hello. I was trying to install linux on my laptop which has windows on it. When i tried to resize the hd I got an error so I aborted the installation. The booted to my windows installation instead, but first it asked me if i wanted to check the disk for errors and i chose no and then went on to using my computer for a few minutes. Then I turned it off and when i tried to boot it I got an message saying "Disk read error press ctrl+alt+delete to restart" I did that and kept on going in circles. I inserted my xp cd to boot from it but nothing happens, just a black screen. I can't even reinstall my copy of windows. My laptop does not have a floppy drive, just some usb ports so it's useless to try to boot from a floppy. What you might have to do is when you boot up, the computer will say something like "Press (some key) to enter setup" and go to that and adjust your boot options, so that it will first try to boot off your CD drive. Let me know how this goes.I tried to boot from my cd drive with my xp cd in and nothing happens, my computer screen remains black without doing anything. Do you of another way to reformat my drive? -pops- Posted June 9, 2007 Report Share Posted June 9, 2007 Are you certain you have CD as the first boot device?If this an XP disk or is it (more likely) some "recovery" disk provided by your laptop maker?If the latter, you must follow the instruction given by the manufacturer to re-install.
