Eight-Oh-Eighty-Eight Posted June 26, 2007 Report Share Posted June 26, 2007 I thought I read somewhere that there was a feature in Vista (probably only in Ultimate) that you could use a USB drive as a sort of key that will only allow you to boot or login (don't remember which) only if that drive is present. My question is did I make this up or does it really exist? There is always a very strong temptation to just pull these drives out of their socket without much or any thought as to what it might be doing at the time. Result - wrecked drive if it happened to be reading or writing which is not always obvious on casual observation. The consequences of what happens in a critical use doesn't need explaining.If you are using a USB drive like this ALWAYS remove it by the approved method - using the Safely Remove Hardware facility in the Sys tray.
