garrason Posted July 8, 2007 Report Share Posted July 8, 2007 My system uses Windows XP version 5.1 (Build 260.xpsp_sp2_gdr.070727-2254 : Service Pack 2). I have the software set for automatic updates.I am having intermittent problems while doing a Windows Search. I selected Documents, keyed "delaware" as a word in the file name (without the quotes, of course) and keyed "delaware garrisons" as a word in the document.After a very short time I got a message that Windows Explorer had to shut down. There was the option of sending a message to Microsoft which I took.Immediately thereafter I got a message that Dr Watson Postmortem Debugger had to shut down. I also sent that message to Microsoft.I restored my PC to an earlier date and the same thing happened again. Sometime ago I paid for a subscription to Live Care but if it should have helped me out, it did not. How do I tell if that is still active?Can anyone help? garrason Posted July 11, 2007 Author Report Share Posted July 11, 2007 Malware? I have Ad-Ware, Ad-Alert and Panda Anti-Virus & Firewall. What else do I need? I run a scan with them about every third night.As for it happening every time: I ran a test before coming to the forum tonight.(1) When I searched only for a filename "JWSMyth" it completed the search in a short time with the correct results.(2) When I searched for a Document containing the word "Mythmaker" it found 5, then went haywire.The progress bar displayed 3 blocks moving from left to right. Above, the indication of which file was being searched had stopped. I let it run for 5 mins then pressed stopped. The stop button turned grey but the process did not stop. I clicked on the X in the red box. The search screen disappeared but the system was messed up.When I got back to my desktop I clicked on my icon for this forum. It was very slow to respond. In fact, it took so long I decided to reboot and that process took a long time.
