Problem accessing Winxp from Win2K

Hi all,

On the same Network we have Winxp Sp2 and Win2k.

On WinXP firewall and simple file sharing are disabled.

On Winxp we setup a folder to share called shared_files.

Everyone has full control to “shared_files” folder.

Under Security gave Everyone full control as well.

Enabled File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks.

Created the same username and password on both WinXp and Win2k.

On WinXP We are able to login and access shared folders on Win2K system.

On Win2K we get the login prompt to login to WinXP, entering the login name and password does not allow use to login to WinXP shared folder.

It loops back to Login box.

In "Start\Run" I tried the following as well:

\\winxp\ shared_files

Or

\\winxp\c$

\\winxp\d$

\\172.17.101.2

\\172.17.101.2\c$

\\172.17.101.2\Shared_files

it is not domain, it is workgroup.

Sorry, I know nothing about workgroups.

The issue is not related Domain or Workgroup.

Here is the fix:

On WinXp by default “Local Security Setting” is set to "Send NTLMv2 response only\refuse LM & NTLM".

On Win2k by default "Local Security Setting" is set to something else.

So,

To fix this problem we need to change Win2k to “Local Security Setting" to "Send NTLMv2 response only\refuse LM & NTLM".
