QWERTYtech Posted August 4, 2007 Report Share Posted August 4, 2007 Hey everyone. I'm not that familiar with Windows ME so this is why I'm here. I just installed a new hd on a computer it's not showing up. I went into the CMOS and the secondary HD showed up there. In my Device Manager it shows the HD but with a red x on it. I also have a Dual Primary Controller (dual fifo) with a yellow circle and ! mark. Boris Posted August 4, 2007 Report Share Posted August 4, 2007 From what I can remember :)Double click the My Computer icon. Now click the second drive icon to select it. Open the File menu and select Format. The format window should display the hard disk capacity. You need to select Format type and enter a disk label (name). Click StartWindows displays a warning box. Boris Posted August 4, 2007 Report Share Posted August 4, 2007 I've got to go now, but try this ?You'll need a Windows ME boot diskMake one by Control Panel -> Add + Remove programs -> Windows boot diskSwitch off the power to your PC and remove the power lead to your old HD.Boot up, change the BIOS so that it will boot from a floppy.Insert the startup disk into your floppy drive and reboot. At the command prompt type "fdisk" . When the text comes up asking you if you want to enable large disk support type "Y" for yes and hit the enter key This will allow a Fat32 partition.Now a menu should appears with four option. Choose No 4 to see the current partitions. (shouldn't be any !)You must first create a partition before you can view any partition informationOnce you start to create your partition you will be asked if you want to use the full capacity of the drive - ......... presumably Yes in your case ?Each partion you make has to be formatted before it is usable.After which switch off the PC, connect both hard disks, remove the floppy, switch on and you're on your way.Hope this helps - will be back in a couple of hours. I just installed a new hd on a computer it's not showing up....IMO, you should either downgrade to Windows 98 (no longer supported) , or go up to Windows 2000.
