Talkgas salien points

As this thread has grown to 9 pages and has now had, at this point in time , nearly 7000 views this information has been complied to assist any lost talkgas souls ; you have probably arrived at this thread by googling for information about talkgas when you find you cannot either send or receive mails into your normal e mail client using the talkgas email ; information has also been included that probably ‘states the obvious’ but, has been included following the problems encountered by Glassy ; the most insignificant adjustment can mean the difference between being able to send/receive mails or not

Basic support contact phone numbers

For set up and service difficulties:

E-Mail them at: [email protected]

(they will normally respond within 48 hours)

(I strongly suggest you mail them from an addy NOT talkgas related )

OR

technical support line on: 0901 600 0600

Please note: This is a premium rate service charged at 50p per minute. Callers need to be aged 18 or over.

Who do I contact for technical support?

talkgas Online Help has an option 'Contact' you can click on, which takes you to a page which has all the information you require to contact talkgas regarding technical or any other issues.

(this works at present and links from it go to some useful information; if you type 'talkgas' into google and grab the first link this next link is where you should find yourself )

talkgas net

NOW, to help you to set up your e mail client to send and receive mail via Talkgas

the following has been complied from the ‘journey’ and information gleaned from hours of work on this to assist with the basic points if you encounter problems with e mailing in Outlook express or other e mail client using the talkgas mail address

If you read and send mail from server you need at this point in time

talkgas log in

if you use Outlook express

In Outlook express if you have not already done so

change your settings to

tools/accounts /mail/(choose talkgas)/properties/server

rename your INCOMING server to

pop.talkgas.tv

go to

tools/accounts/mail/talkgas/properties/server/

incoming pop 3 server

pop.talkgas.tvincoming mail server account name ;I have [email protected]

then go to go to

tools/accounts/mail/properties/servers/outgoing mail/ 'my server requires authentication' is ticked

I do NOT have secure password authentiction

I DO have

my server requires authentication

BY THAT tab you should have a thing called settings?

if you click on IT

you go to outgoing mail server box

THERE you may have to choose

log on using if trying the use same settings as my incoming mail server tab does NOT allow you to mail out

I use log on using

and I have my btinternet addy in that box

I do NOT have ticked 'use same settings as my incoming server'

I have programed in my btinternet addy and password in that section and have ticked 'remember password'

with IE6 browser open

go to

tools/internet options/programs/email/ if you have more than ONE email client ,chose which program is to be default

for how long THESE settings remain useable remains to be seen

send yourself a test mail and see if you CAN send it from your e mail client and receive it from the server and upload it to your computer from the talkgas server via your chosen default e mail program

these settiings should work until the talkgas server gets moved again !!!!

(NB ;all the links to other sites have been tested as working on previewing this entry  )

I hope the above summary of the journey and the contact numbers helps anyone who does find themselves here ;

AS this thread is already long ,I would politely suggest and request that further comments are only made by those seeking help and guidance or offering support with this issue

I again thank Admin and the Mods for allowing this discussion on this forum :flowers::flowers:

I've closed and locked the original nine page topic on this issue but it will remain on forum for research purpose. Because of its length and a few off topic post it was a little difficult to follow. P3 has written an excellent summary and I've used this to start the fresh topic. Please try to keep all post on subject and if you need or want to have an off topic chat then please use the lounge area. :)

Many thanks and the link back to the original 9 page topic is. Original topic there is a link back here on the last page.

Well it appears to have completely disappeared now. My mail is now being returned if I used the Talkgas e-mail so I presume they have pulled the plug on us forever?

I have only JUST stared getting problems with this so please try logging in here to the server manually and see what result you get? I have used the SAME email addy and password and previously it 'worked'

http://webmail.talkgas.tv/cgi-bin/LoginManager.cgi

mine is currently 'working ' using my Outlook Express ( much to my intrigue) but I get the

ERROR:

ERROR: Connection dropped by IMAP server.

message when I try the server :(

please try logging in here to the server manually and see what result you get?

Strange; I have also tried to log into the web mail with an alternative address I created IN Talkgas some while ago; I get the same response from the server

ERROR:

ERROR: Connection dropped by IMAP server.

:(

anyone else similarly affected?

I am just getting unknown user or password! All mail going to that account gets returned completely confused as it all went pear shaped last week. :(

unbelievably; I have JUST NOW managed to log in to the server

http://webmail.talkgas.tv/cgi-bin/LoginManager.cgi

and can see my page there!!!!!

try yours again?

note from the server

Notice: All Supanet customers receive 20MB of web space in their mail boxes as standard. However, once this space is full you will no longer be able to send or receive emails. We ask that all customers personally monitor their account and delete any unnecessary mails from either your inbox or sent items folder.
:(

just again retried it in case it was a 'fluke' managed to log out and back in too!!

MY O.E .has been OK plus my Mailwasher so the server MUST be there ...out in space somewhere.......

and just to REALLY annoy you ; I have also managed to log into the server with my OTHER talkgas addy too

what miracle!!!!!!

for how long remains to be seen

I presume that both of you are actual paying Supanet e-mail account users ?

They have just changed their conditions so that only e-mail account users who have a current (dial-up or broadband) account can access their emails free of charge. If you are a legacy (non-current paying account) user then you now have to pay to use any address you have with them.

No haven't been paying but perhaps they should have told me that! Treating me like a mushroom again! :D

Hopefully asking the obvious but are you trying to log in where it says 'e mail' above the Blue 'dial up' box ?

Thanks for all your help by the way much appreciated

no problem :flowers: as I TOO am in a similar boat and very curious about all this :(

Are you sure you are entering the addy EXACTLY as it should be and the password?

Can you now access your Web mail side AND send and receive mails in Outlook with your talkgas addy?

No Supanet have disconnected me and if I want to stay on with the talkgas address I will have to pay, so have decided to give them up and just use my other accounts. Shame as it was easy to remember and useful
