awelch Posted August 16, 2007 Report Share Posted August 16, 2007 Hi, I'm currently running Windows XP Media Center 2005. I have 4x1gb (4gb) of Corsair memory on an Asus P5W DH Deluxe Mobo. When I boot up the bios sees 4gb of memory, but windows task manager only sees 2gb total physical memory. Is this a limitation of windows 32bit or something else? Thanks. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb Posted August 16, 2007 Report Share Posted August 16, 2007 Theoretically, 32-bit addressing should be able to use 4GB (0xFFFFFFFF (+1) = 4,294,967,296 bytes = 4GB). However, I believe that only 31 bit are used for addressing, which covers 0x7FFFFFFF (+1) = 2,147,483,648 bytes = 2GB. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb Posted August 16, 2007 Report Share Posted August 16, 2007 Sorry, I was wrong. Windows should definitely "see" the 4GB you have. This could be an issue with your BIOS; boot into BIOS setup mode and see if BIOS recognizes all 4GB.I was also wrong about the 31-bit addressing - it really is 32-bit (unlike IBM mainframes that use 31-bit addressing).
