guardian1960
Hello allFirstly I'm new here so please bare with me if I'm not the sharpest tool in the box.I have a laptop with a totally u/s screen and now only runs on an external screen in safe mode, so I think it may also have other issues. I have been given another laptop with similar spec' with a not so big hard drive, the screen is ok on this one, not great but will do. I'm running windows XP service pack 2, would I be able to physically swap the hard drives and run my old drive in the laptop I have been given? The reason I ask is that I understand that Windows protects its self by a file check against the hardware of the PC its installed on, if so can I get over this problem and how? Many thanks in advanceSteve
-pops-
There should be no problem swapping the hard drive (care is needed) and you are right about Windows protection. There are two approaches you could try with this: 1. You could re-register the new combination with the product key of the new computer which now contains the old drive (the product key should be on the case). That will only work if the two Windows versions are the same, or 2. You could contact Microsoft and tell them the situation. They are normally very helpful and they will do their best to help you.
