Security for TV lovers

Recommended Posts

Hi

Just happened to pick up the last feed in this section and couldn't help noticing the comments on security. A few similar points are also repeated in other posts and whilst very helpful in many ways, they could be added to.

Loading security software after the event is a little late. Surely, nobody should be connecting to the internet without a good firewall, anti-virus and anti-spyware. There are a number of other basic precautions which could be listed but rather than fill up space, I found a computer repair site, which is local to many posters and offers a basic guide, along with other sections on useful free software. Does not appear to be a definitive, specialist guide but probably isn't meant to be and might allay some confusion.

As for the i player itself, apart from the minor problem of being based on DRM and Media Player, which according to many are targets to be cracked and hacked, they use an oh so secure peer to peer network. I did sign up but not for long. Apart from anything else, what is there to bother watching. The most exciting part was one of their confirmation emails, so convinced this was phishing, had to phone up to check. Don't think the BBC are into security.
