hal9000chris Posted September 27, 2007 Report Share Posted September 27, 2007 I recently overhauled my computer (new board, cpu, ...the works) and re-installed Windows XP Pro on the new hard drive from which my new and improved computer currently boots from. The computer won't boot up from the previous hard drive, and I didn't think to move the previous profile's docs and settings folder to something that isn't locked behind a password before doing this. Now I don't know how to access the previous profile's files and folders now that I can't input a password to log on. Any easy answers? ithonicfury Posted September 27, 2007 Report Share Posted September 27, 2007 Make sure the user your logged in as is an administrator, right click on the Documents and Settings folder and go to Security, if Everyone is listed then just check it to Full Control, if not then just hit Add and then put in everyone in the box and hit OK and then put a check in Full Control.Hit apply, make sure you select the option to give the change on all folders, files and subfolders. Then after thats done, try and access it.If not then another solution would be to download Ubuntu and boot off of a live CD, plug in the drive when its booted, and take those files and dump them off to a share on another computer or another harddrive or something.
