Vista RAID 5 Support

I understand Vista supports software based RAID 5 volumes. Is that true? Also, I have Vista installed with only one hard disk. Does that mean I can upgrade to raid 5 by adding the two further drives and doing it through windows or do you need to backup and restore data to do that?

Thanks for the help :D

If you add the two hard drives (same size as the one you already have), then in disk management you can make it a raid 5 with those three volumes (may need to convert them to dynamic volumes first).

You dont need to reinstall, but as with any kind of thing like that its always best to have a backup just incase.

Not sure if Vista does have software RAID 5 support or not (never looked, but I would assume it would only be in Business or Ultimate), it may be something they are holding back on for the server version (like how Windows Server 2003 has software RAID 5 whereas XP doesnt.)
