Windows Desktop Search query problem

Hi all,

I have installed WDS 2.6.6 and tried to search several things. In general it is working fine, but when I try to search for a CASE id from our company, there are no results.

When I search for 1-304848261 WDS didn't give and mail, but there should be several.

So my question is: Can I disable the Advanced Query Syntax? I tried all special characters before the search string, but it is not working.

Did somebody had the same problem?

BR & Thanks

Thomas

Welcome to the Windows Forum.

Where are these case information stored? In a database? In your email? In text files?

Email and text files (and Office documents, PDFs, etc.) are all indexed by WDS, but some databases are not. It needs to be enabled, otherwise nothing is found.

Hi,

thank you very much for reply.

F.e. the string with 1-3... is stored in my mails. I have indexed everything but he cant find.

There is another example:

When I search for "1-301475821" i get 7 results. (He brings only relults from /Personal Folders/Sent Items.)

But when I search for "301475821" i get 15 results. (He brings only relults from /Personal Folders/Sent Items and /Personal Folders/Inbox/Cases.)

So everything must be indexed.

I have also an mail with "FW: RAS" in the subject field. When I search for "FW: RAS" as in the mail, I get no results. Even when I search only for RAS i get nothing.

So I wonder, if I can somehow disable the syntax, isn't it?

BR and thanks

Thomas

Sorry, I can't answer your question regarding disabling syntax (but I don't think you can). I have used WDS briefly in the past, but the latest version did not allow me to disable mail indexing, so I changed to a different desktop search (Copernic).

I briefly tried Google Desktop Search, but it would never find anything.

Both WDS and Copernic have their advantages and disadvantages.

I had several problems this week with Copernic (using 100% CPU and hanging, unable to stop, even with Task Manager). Looks like we just have to wait until the "perfect" desktop search is developed B)
