y2khardtop Posted October 14, 2007 Report Share Posted October 14, 2007 I'm buying a new high-end laptop (Toshiba SLI3) that ONLY comes with Vista. I'm planning on running it with Aero turned off, as I'm more interested in performance than the snazzy graphics.Will I notice a performance hit running Vista with Aero turned off, compared more or less to XP? I'm a gamer too, and am concerned about DX10, but plan on turning it off and running DX9 if the game allows.Anyway, any advice appreciated. The Keyboard was horrible, and the shiny surface was impossible to keep clean. Alienware, etc is just too expensive.To me, that leaves a mainstream company like Lenova or Toshiba. I have had several thinkpads, and loved them, but they don't really do gaming machines. The Toshiba offers a 17" screen and Sli graphics, so that is my choice.Again, how does Vista "dumbed down" compare with XP???
