Chris32
Hi allI have just bought a second hand computer from a college as they were selling them off cheap. Its a pentium 4 1.7ghz with 768mb of ram, 20gb hard drive etc for £75 Its running windows xp and its super fast and is perfect for what i want it for. The only problem i have noticed with it is its very noisey. Some of the noise maybe a fan but not sure and there seems to be a slight whistling noise coming from it.I will probably get used to it but i was just curious, if i take it in to a repair shop is there something they could maybe do to lessen the noise? or is it something that i will maybe just have to get used too?Long shot i know as it could be coming from anywhere but thought i would ask! Thanks allChris
-pops-
If you're happy about opening the case then make a sort of "stethoscope" by rolling paper into a tube, stick one end in your ear and put the other end close to anything that might be making a noise e.g. heatsink fan, case fan(s) - anything that moves.Case fans and heatsink fans are cheap and reasonably easy to replace. It could be the hard drive but not as likely.
