New Network

Hi All

My son, along with 5 others have taken out Virgin Broadband on their cable network. The have the appropriate box but are having trouble sorting a router for wireless communication.

Can any one suggest a router powerful enough to reach the top of a three story house?

They have tried severa, sorry but I can't remember which ones, but cannot get a reliable signal to the top floor. I can do very little for them.

ANy help greatlt apprecated.

Just to clarify this is in a 3 floor house with broadband through a cable connection. They each have their own notebook/desktop machine so therefore DHCP type IP addressing is needed.

I like the Linksys wireless routers, they are rather easy to mod.

A few I've seen is putting tinfoil behind where you point it to increase the range.

Another option is buying a better antenna.

I borrow my internet connection of a neighbour two doors away and he has a old Linksys WRT router, no mods.

The connection is crap, if i use a laptop I get a better connection as its built in, so if its a computer I recommend putting in PCI Wireless cards none of the USB Adaptor crap.
