Windows 2000 server cals

Hi, to cut a long story short: We bought a windows 2000 server with 50 cals in per seat mode. A few years later we bought another server running windows 2000 server. Im unsure whether legally i need to purchase another 50 cals as both servers are in use on the network. In the licensing mmc on the second server it show all users as having unlicensed access. Im quite positive that licensing replication is occuring from our domain controller. So in a nut-shell just wondering if my 50 users need cals for every server in per seat mode i.e. for every server i buy do i need to purchase another set of 50 cals and also any ideas as to why my second server is showing all clients as unlicensed.

You may well be better off going straight to source with this query. At least you could be pretty sure that legally you were doing the correct thing.

In the current climate of litigation if you have an answer straight from the horses mouth and keep a copy of any replies, you will have fairly well covered your back should any problems arise in the future.

Just as an additional piece of info I will just add this:

To Convert from Per-Seat Licensing to Per-Server Licensing:

In Control Panel, double-click Licensing.

In the Choose Licensing Mode dialog box, click Per Device or click Per User in Windows Server 2003. Click Per Seat or Per Server in Windows 2000 Server.

You may receive the following error message:

Licence Violation

You have requested a change that may violate the license agreement. The License for a one-time change from a Per Server to a Per Device or Per User configuration. Do you want to cancel this request?

You can click Yes to cancel, or click No to continue.
