My motherboard is Asus P5K-E/WIFI-AP with onboard wireless (Realtek RTL8187).XP tells me this connection is working properly and is connected but my browser fails to reach any web site. It will connect if my browser address is specified as HTTP:// PLUS THE IP ADDRESS but not if it is specified as a WEB ADDRESS.The output of IPCONFIG shows that the wireless adaptor has the correct IP address and mask BUT NO DEFAULT GATEWAY ADDRESS.My onboard ethernet adaptor works perfectly. I have a Ralink RT2500 USB wireless adaptor which works perfectly. The onboard wireless seems to be configured exactly the same as the USB wireless.I have tried my browser with IPv6 enabled and disabled - no luck.Can someone please throw some light on this?nomadic Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Are you having the adapter get its ip address dynamically and are the others doing the same or are they set with a static address setup? Without a gateway address you cannot reach your providers Domain name servers. I'm not even sure you can reach anything outside your own network, the default gateway needs to be your routers address and if it is not set up properly to give you a dynamic address you will need to set up your adapter statically. And you will need to set you domain name servers address as well. If the other adapters are working you should find the info there that you need. My ethernet and USB adapters DID have correct IP addresses and default gateway address. The Realtek adapter for some reason would not show a default gateway address even tho I set it up exactly as the USB adapter.I made one last attempt to configure it again using the Realtek WIFI-AP Solo wizard which came with the motherboard (about my 10th attempt with this wizard as well as umpteen attempts using XP network setup) and it works)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I set it to use DHCP rather than static addressing, as the others do.I don't understand what is now different to what I have been doing for the past couple of weeks, but obviously something IS different.I suppose all's well that ends well tho I would prefer to know what the problem was.Anyway, thank you for responding so quickly.nomadic Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
