strata0615 Posted November 20, 2007 Report Share Posted November 20, 2007 AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+2GB RAMGeForce 6150SEWindows XP Professional will not install on my computer.After a fresh format I tried to install it from CD and it loads up the blue screen, copying files and such, has me pick a partition to install it to, formats it... all that fun stuff. Then it does the restart, but it does not load up windows. After the reboot it goes right back to same screen and starts the process over.Only Windows XP 32bit is doing this. I downloaded the WinXP Pro 64bit trial and it installed just fine. I then totally reformatted, tried WinXP 32bit again with the same results. Then installed the trial of WinXP Pro 64bit again and that is what I am on now.I am not an expert with computers, but am decently able to follow any instructions someone could give to fix this.Thanks Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

If anyone could explain what a SATA drive is, and if that would make it allow me to install 64bit XP and not 32bit? Originally had vista but it was pissing me off. Haha. And, the CD of windows doesn't have SP2 on it if thats what you mean. Do the ones you buy now come with SP2 already on the CD? ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb Posted November 23, 2007 Report Share Posted November 23, 2007 Yes, if you get a new Windows XP install disk, it will come with SP2 preinstalled - soon SP3.This may or may not solve your problem, but for $10 it's certainly worth a try. Once it goes through that Copying Files and whatnot and reboots, you should let it boot off the harddrive, not from the CD.(Usually it will have the "Press any Key to boot to cd" prompt, in which case you shouldn't press a key then, but if not then maybe after that reboot, go into the BIOS setup and change the boot order manually to the harddrive first.) I sincerely doubt its because of your processor, because XP would just see a 32bit processor anyway since its not a 64bit OS and unless your actually running an Itanium, then your CPU is fully 32bit complaint. WXP does this for you it also gives you the choice of deleting the parrtitionand start afresh.DON'T DELETE THE HARD DRIVE AS YOU MAY HAVE TO REINSTALL THE SATA DIVERS.
