jaross Posted November 29, 2007 Report Share Posted November 29, 2007 well, after about a year, I got my windows machine working again after a difficult situation (video card shorting out the power supply)anyway, startup is taking way longer then it did before. after bios does its thing, there is a black screen, which lasts a long time. eventually there is a progress bar which looks like the one from wiindows 2000. it is white with little sections spanning the whole bottom of the screen. it does not start to make progress for a long time, then slowly starts and eventually speeds up. then, I get the standard animated windoes logo startup and everything works as normal from there on out.can anyone help my with this horrendous problem? it seriously makes startup much more then twice as long as it should be. Has this been replaced or is the old one still installed?My thinking is that the power supply for some reason is inadequate to provide enough power for the startup (where a large amount of power is needed to get all the parts going). The result of this may be that the machine has to make several attempts to start or that the different bits of hardware have to wait in turn until power is sufficient. I have replaced the power supply and the videocard. the hardware should be 100% now...I don't know, if there was a short like that I would check the system board for any damage. jaross Posted December 2, 2007 Author Report Share Posted December 2, 2007 allright, well I went through and speed up the Bios process. that is faster now, no more checking boot devices/hard drives. bios runs, then there is a black screen for a long time, then a white sectioned progress bar which goes very slow at first, then faster as it goes. then the animated windows screen. the thing I don't understand is if it was hardware, wouldn't things not work in windows? my computer is of full working order once windows starts up.
