Four
Hey everyone.Recently I've been having some issues with my computer coming to a crawl whenever I try to do anything intensive. I'm really not sure where to begin with looking for problems, but I almost suspect that it is CPU related... I was playing a game of CivIV one night, and then out of no where it crashed. Currently when I use it to say, listen to music and open photoshop the music stutters and it takes a while for the app to open. Gaming is nearly impossible. I'm running an Intel Core2Duo 6400 with 2 gigs of ram and Radeon x1950 video card.I've opened the computer up, added some new thermal goo to the fan and reseated that. Nothing was ever singed nor have I ever smelled anything burning. I also noticed no burn marks or anything on the mobo. I've had this rig setup for a year and never had a problem... Any ideas on how I can narrow down/fix the problem? Ideally I'd like to do it without a reformat.
ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Welcome to the Windows Forum. There are many possibilities. First of all, did you make sure that you don't have any malware on your system? Run a full scan with anti-virus software, as well as anti-spyware application(s). If you don't have any installed, start with an online scan at http://housecall.trendmicro.com/; if you have Vista, make sure you runn Housecall version 6.6After we have made sure that it is not malware we can look into other possibilities.
