geordie_john Posted January 7, 2008 Report Share Posted January 7, 2008 hello i have a tower pc running with windows xp sp2 and a belkin router,my 2 laptops are running with windows vista ultimate.i setup a home network on my laptops but when i checked it was running unsecured and i have to take out the printer lead from the windows xp m/c and plug it into my laptops to print,i have since setup a home network on my windows xp m/c and set it up so it is secure,but when i try to connect from my laptop to the tower pc running windows xp it will not connect and i have to connect to the unsecured network,how do i remove the unsecured network so i will connect only to the secured network please?thank you. ithonicfury Posted January 8, 2008 Report Share Posted January 8, 2008 The reason that its an 'unsecured' network is most likely because your wireless network doesnt have any encryption on it, you can enable WEP/WPA on it in your router settings (see your router documentation for how to do that) to restrict who can access it. Mike567 Posted January 8, 2008 Report Share Posted January 8, 2008 You may find your router doesn't support encryption but you will find most support IPsec.If you want secure wireless change your SSID also hide the SSID, change the login as well which is VERY important and if you have the option of WPA over WEP choose it or even better WPA2 takes a long time to crack, unlike WEP you can crack that in a min or two.
