FF i not starting up now

I am still having problems. I had to do another restore because I had a trojan and everything became unstable in that programs suddenly not responding etc.

I had got it sorted.

So restored. took 4 hours. Last one 3 hours so worried Also my restore is limited to January and one on 31.12.07 - rest are gone

Now FF wont start at all.

Up comes a window saying dialog id = "eula dialog"

I had got it to start ok but it was only half a window and restarted it in safe mode now cant do anything. Help

Had a lot of work to do to get IE6 working too. seems I lost a lot like Adobe Flash and Spybot and heaps of others.

Also had to uninstall and reinstall email and DAP.

Avast caught the trojan and it is in the chest.

It was in a program file and was VA.11exe Trojan was Win32-torjan-gen.

Can you just try to reinstall Firefox on the top of the existing installation? I think this should work fine. (Make sure that no instance of Firefox is running - check with Task Manager.)

Didnt work. it started but was empty of most stuff like bookmarks although there on other window when you clicked onto organise. All across the top tabs were disabled.

so have uninstalled. I think. Cant find it.

Also have sent the program download to recycle and then ran crap cleaner. It went on and on and I havent been many places today but found 43.5 mb. I ran it on starting up today. :0

So will go download another new version via IE6 - incidently when I looked at tthe temp files that cc got rid of they all started off with IE5 !!

Just checked and this is 6.0.29.2180 so just another of lifes litle mysteries.

Ok that didnt work either.

I downloaded new version using IE secure an old browser I bought years back - as IE6 started not responding.

I installed FF and it is working but still has lost its bottom of the window and is the colour of blue half way up with a small red > sign on right hand side. (?) red herring?

OK I have been looking around - remove/add and checking= have for instance 2 Spybots. 1.4 & 1.15. Cant uninstall either as something missing.

I had adobe listed but not there and thats fixed as went to their site and ran uninstaller and then downloaded.

Something has been doing things to my programs must be the trojan maybe?

Miss FF. IE6 is working now that I have fixed it up on active X's and add on - all updated that could.

Also uninstalled several Java versions. Leaving current one.

Stumped on Firefox. :(

I am stumped why this would happen. In fact, I do not quite get this Firefox "new look"; can you post a screenshot?

P.S. I have to leave right now, so hopefully someone in the UK will come up with a solution.

I'm had this issue many of times, try FF i safe mode (ff's safe mode).

Can't remember how i fixed it though, might have done something like firefox.exe -p resets the profiles or something.

Use opera its 10x better :lol:.

Nevermind, someone will show you some day. As Mike has seen it before, he recommends to start FF in Safe Mode [start | Programs | Mozilla Firefox | Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode)]. Does it also do it in Safe Mode?

If not, it could be a plugin that is corrupt. Uninstall all plugins, then try to start it again in normal mode.

OK will have download another file as the one I had I uninstalled and got rid of and then the next one is corrupt.

Meanwhile I have got rid of two versions of Spybot - which when I went into program files had somehow got muddled up they were all in one folder and were not working and had two uninstallers neither of which would do it. Got rid of it with Cyberscrub and it then wiped the fre space -took a while. Only thing that was a pain was the Tea timer - Ihad disabled it long time ago on old version but it stuck around and windows said it was protected. Got it in the end with cyberscrub as it was last bit left in file.

Also found I had 3 versions of Java. 4 Adobe Flash players - all fixed up now but cleaning house takes a while.

So will try to download a clean FF program and install.

Also will check plug ins.

So far everything else iw now working so may have got rid of the gremlins by cleaning up. :D

Yippee - I am back on a perfect Firefox. She said crossing her fingers.

This time somehow I got onto by serendipity a British Mozilla site and downloaded the British version of Firefox and it works. I had downloaded the British version off the American site 2 times and both were corrupt.

Thinking back - it was in October that I downloaded the latest version of spybot and it had this new updater and that froze on me a couple of times and I stopped using it - relied on Super Anti spyware and spyware Blaster.

Maybe it was the two into one program that was mucking up the rest do you think?

OK - to add to this - after closing down - just could not get on line on reboot.

Found that all my settings were altered - and my connections had gone to encrypt and not allow unsecured password. Redid it all and retyped in user name and password and got connected finally - then email had to be redone too as user name etc not recognised until retyped in.

So having got everything updated I ran scans. No spyware - only ran SuperAntiSpyware apart from SpyBlaster no other now except Adaware which I haven't used for yonks.

Avast reported that I have password protected files for Adaware and for SuperAntiSpyware. Similar thing earlier for Spybot and why I had problems killing spybot as it had one file that was password protected.

(Saw this on earlier report but being computer illiterate well just about but learnign slowly - I thought it was normal

Must be some sort of nasty has been affecting my computer all this time - do you think?

Shall I try uninstalling both adaware and SASpyware and download new versions?

Bit shy of running combofix as it disconnects you and my connection is a bit dodgy maybe or just seemed to be by whatever is affecting or has affected stuff. Seems to me some nasty that disables spyware detector programs

A very good online scanner for nasties is Trendmicro Housecall. It runs on both IE and Firefox, but I found it a bit easier to run on IE with ActiveX. Run a full scan to be sure you don't have any nasties.

Next run Secunia Software Inspector to make sure that you don't have any outdated, unsecure software or missing Windows updates.

Well I have no nasties. I did try Trend Housecall but it cut off so went to Kaspersky and it reported no nasties.

Things seem to be running smoothly - she said crossing everything.

One thing though - when I run Avast - on the report there are files it says it can not scan. These are password protected it says. Applied to Spybot, Adaware and Super Anti Spyware.

I have bumped both Spybot and Adaware but still have the report saying adaware there. Spybot (totally corrupted)I finally got rid of all of it with the use of Cyberscrub as Add/Remove and CCleaner couldn't uninstall. There is a tool on the Spybot site you can get to rid yourself of it but it didn't work either. Corrupted as mentioned above.

Now latest report says also that files on Super Anti Spyware are corrupted. So I ran the repair function - seems to working fine.

Small example of Avast report:-

Does that mean the actual program I installed is corrupt?

Do I need to get rid of it - get a new download, uninstall the old version and install new one?

It also reported Adaware similar but I have since Cyberscrubbed it along with any other programs I had stashed away but no longer used.
