Installing windows without a CD drive

Hi I'm trying to install windows xp on a laptop that doesnt have a cd drive.

Currently I've tried using a USB CD drive to install, but that fails.

It boots from the CD, goes through the initial screen loading drivers and modules,

but when it then gets to the point of saying "starting windows" (before any interactive menus) it hits a very generic BSOD.

I'll try to get the exact STOP code and post it a little later, but from what I've read of it, its just a generic "drivers failed".

The impression I get is that it is caused by booting off the USB cd drive (but I'm not certain).

Does anyone know how I can install without a cd drive (atleast so that I can eliminate it as a problem).

The laptop had vista installed before, so I'm happy the hardware is working fine.

But any other sudgestions welcome.

Thanks for your time.
