My friend is running Vista on a Dell.

His speakers work (the light is on and there is line noise), but no sound is coming from the computer. I have tried my speakers on his PC, and the same thing - line noise but no sound from PC; what is the easiest way to see if there is a conflict causing this? I'm thinking sound card

I don't know the type of sound card, the speakers plug into the back of the PC (into the round green hole)

That is the first thing I checked - it's not muted and 50/50 balance beteween the speakers
