MikeGrimes
I have an Acer Aspire 5050 that I have had for about a year now. I noticed a while ago then when I start my computer it alerts me that SMART failure has been predicted :( and that I am to repair or replace my hard drive. Is this really the only way to repair this? Also every so often my computer will get goonie and not want to restart after being shut down either by failure or my own doing. I then just get sick of dealing with it and have to resort to using my system restore discs to bring my computer back to it's factory settings. Until now this hasn't been an issue besides having to re-download a few programs and re-rip CD's, but now when I go to restore it restores properly but when it's done and ready to setup windows it goes through all the motions but when it gets to the first setup screen it just hangs...It doesn't quite freeze because things are still moving on the screen and music still plays. This has happened before but after a few tries it always worked. Now it just doesn't want to work no matter how hard, or how many times I try. Any ideas on how I could fix this any of these problems would be greatly appreciated. I'm not computer illiterate but also not quite a whiz...but I can follow directions. If you could help me out it would be great. Thank You! --Mike
-pops-
If you can find out the hard drive manufacturer, you can download their diagnostic software and perhaps get a better idea of the state of the drive from that.
