timbokil
I'm trying to connect a Dell 2005FPW to a PC running XP Pro 5.1.2600SP2 with a K7S41GX motherboard and Sis741 display adapter with an analog, not DVI, cable.I've downloaded latest drivers I can find for the display (23 Sep 04) and for the Sis741 (19 Jan 2004). Screen refresh rate is set to 60Hz and DPI to 96.When I choose Display Properties: Settings:, the resolution shows correctly as 1680 x 1050. However, the picture's no good:- it's about 5% too high, so the Start button and task bar disappear when you move the mouse to the top of the screen, and- fonts and images are stretched sideways, and- the screen stretches a long way to the right, so you lose the left third of the taskbar when you mouse over to see the taskbar clock.I'm worried that this computer or this motherboard or this display adapter simply won't support this monitor. Can anyone help? Alan2273
Your SiS 741 chipset will not support that resolution.A BIOS flash can be had for this problem, but get it wrong and the motherboard becomes an expensive paperweight.Or you can buy a cheap AGP card like this, which will support that resolution.http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?NOV-GF6225
