outlook 2003, domain user, priviledge same as administrator in local computer, I am not quite sure how to look up the message format,is message(html) this right? I use adobe professional, version 8.0, probably the attached file names contain no Unicode characters as I wrote the example above, email attached poprint_abc_fg.pdf, would "poprint_abc_fg" be unicode?

No, if you copy-and-pasted "poprint_abc_fg", then there are no Unicode characters in there. This is rather mysterious!

If you save the attachment to disk, can you then open it?

If you rename the attachment before sending it (e.g. to abc.pdf) can you then open it?

Just to narrow the problem down: does it always happen when the file name contains underscore characters (also called low-line)?

If you save poprint_abc_fg.pdf to disk, then rename it and send it to yourself, can you open it from within Outlook?

One additional question about Outlook: what account type are you using (POP/SMTP, IMAP, Exchange Server)? Also, if you use a PST file, is it a Unicode-type (Outlook 2003) or ANSI-type (Outlook 97-2002)? You can verify it by right-clicking on the Personal Folders, Properties, tab General, click Advanced. The Format field should tell you what it is.

right-clicking on the Personal Folders, Properties, tab General, click Advanced. The Format field is Personal Folders File, not showing Unicode-type (Outlook 2003) or ANSI-type (Outlook 97-2002), why?

I cannot double click the attachment to open which was renmaed to asdf.pdf(copy of xx_xx_xx.pdf) by myself.

"Personal Folders File" is Unicode, "Personal Folders File (97-2002)" is ANSI.

Right now I have no more ideas. Can you try to post your problem in the Microsoft Outlook newsgroup at news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.outlook.general (this newsgroups is also available web-based, search Google for "microsoft.public.outlook.general"). There are many Outlook specialists hanging out there; someone may just know what's biting you.

Specify all information with your post; including Outlook version, etc.

Sorry, I don't know about that - I have never seen any OLKnnn folder on my disk, not on C:, nor in any temp folders. So I really don't know where this is coming from.

Could it be an Outlook add-on doing this? Can you try the same thing again with Outlook in Safe Mode (Start -> Run -> type outlook /safe)?

I found a folder c:\OLK115 in disk, if I delete it, next time a want to open a pdf file in outlook, it will generate c:\OLK116, the pdf file in this folder, but outlook don't know and said cannot find the specificed file.

It's the Outlook (OLK) temporary folder.

But... I think you are on to something. Do a Google search for Outlook OLK folder, and you get a real lot of information on this. If you give more keywords like Outlook OLK folder cannot find or Outlook OLK folder cannot find specified file you may find the solution for your problem.

Right now I am too busy to help you examining the Google results; hopefully you find something.

I heard about not bad application-.pst reader, can read corrupted files of PST and OST format and save emails, works with all supported versions of Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Windows, supports data extraction as separate files in *.eml, *.vcf and *.txt format, they will be placed to any folder upon your choice, the size of every single output PST file will not exceed 1Gb, can work with very large files,is so easy, that even inexperienced users can easily work with this program.

I don't understand this post - the topic you have resurrected had nothing to do with a corrupt PST file.
