I am helping a friend with a computer that they were given from their workplace. Work was upgrading to new machines. It is a pentium 4 with XP Pro on it. My problem is that i have notice a few oddball things. The main one that is confusing me is that when I open IE7 it trys to do that runonce thing....seems to download things then just presents me a white page with nothing at all on it. If i go into the address bar and put in another site it goes there no problem. Then when I navigate to the window update site again I just get a white page with nothing on it. I'm not a it Pro and I'm not use to XP Pro but I wonder is there possibly some settings that might be set to prevent a workplace user from updating the computer? I did notice that when tried to uninstall Norton it asked me for a uninstall password. Any ideas would be a help.

Welcome to the Windows Forum.

Try this link for Microsoft Update: http://www.update.microsoft.com/microsoftu...v6/default.aspx; it works better than the old Windows Update site.

As for Norton - you may need to go to the Symantec website and download the uninstall tool. I don't have the download location; maybe someone else here can provide it?
