I saw somewhere, that if you type bootcfg /rebuild in the run box, it will reset the "win.ini" file so that the RC won't keep coming up. My problem is, I get the following message:Windows cannot find 'bootcfg'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. According to Scott Mueller, and Brian Knittel's book "Upgrading and Repairing Microsoft Windows", on pps. 603 - 618, they list the resource kit tools, and what operating systems that they are found. They say that bootcfg is a file, and it is found only in XP Professional. The computer that I'm having trouble getting rid of the Recovery Console has XP Home.When I get the chance, this weekend, I'll post the contents of win.ini. Sorry for the delay. I do not have WinStyler. The Recovery Console has been coming up for at least a couple of years now, maybe 3. Yes, I know, why didn't I try to fix this a long time ago? Procrastination. By the way, isn't there supposed to be an option for bootcfg on the RC? As far as the boot.ini. I use 3 computers, and all three have different options in the boot.ini file. Boris Posted April 12, 2008 Report Share Posted April 12, 2008 You don't explain why TuneUp has changed your boot.iniIn spite of this, it is evident that you've changed your "System Properties/Startup and Recovery/System Start" parameters from the default 30 seconds to 0 seconds ?Have you already tried backing up your existing boot.ini as bootini.old and then changing the existing boot.ini to read as it would have originally read as below ?[boot loader]timeout=30default=multi(0)disk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS[operating systems]multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptInsaving it as boot.ini and then rebooting.You can always replace the changed one with your saved bootini.old if nothing gets solved in the attempt ?
