Windows Xp Standby

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, my first post here!

i am having problems with my computer, it's Windows Xp Media Centre edition, when i press the "standby" button or select standby ... my monitor shuts off, my keyboard & mice are both off ... however my computer is still running ... which i find really strange. and even after 10 mintues my monitor and keyboard are still running but the computer is still running (as in all the main lights (display light) are on, the fan is on etc).

but if anyone can help me here i would really appreciate it!

thanks a million

Welcome to the Windows Forum.

Sorry, I do not quite understand your situation. First you write "my monitor shuts off, my keyboard & mice are both off", then later you write "and even after 10 minutes my monitor and keyboard are still running" - now which is it?

I'm also confused. That's what Stand By means, doesn't it? Like - the taxi's outside with the engine running waiting for you to jump in. It's not the same as Hibernate, which shuts everything down after having made an exact record of your computer's state and enables booting at about 50% of the usual time.

UPDATE: sorry let me clear the issue up, when I try to put my computer in standby ... my monitor and keyboard and mouse all turn off but my main comp remains on (as in fully running with the fan and my graphics card fan etc...) typically when you put a comp in standby all that remains on is a the tiny light which blinks (indicating the comp is in standby instead of shutdown) however my entire computer (except the keyboard, mouse and monitor) is still running,

i installed a fresh copy of windows xp media centre and since then i have had this problem... here is a quick comp specks

2 Gb Ram, Intel Pentium 4 , 3.6 GHz, 512 Mb Graphics (ATI),

i dont know much about comp's but thats just the basic....

sorry for the confusion.
