Issue Installing Windows Xp

Long story straight I reform mated to Linux to find that it wasn't for me. I tried to install windows by putting in the cd but i got an error saying it could not find my hard drive. So i completely nuked both my hard drives. Now i can install Linux but when i put in the windows cd i still get the same error which is

Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer

Make sure any hard drisk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program.

Setup cannot continue. To quit Setup, press F3

Any ideas?

And my hard drives do work since installing Linux is possible.

As it is a laptop, is your CD a recovery CD that uses a hidden partition to restore from the hard drive or is it a full XP CD.

I'm not sure. Which should i use,,, I've used this cd to reformat my other laptop which was a dell.

Why i askes was if it is a recovery Cd it looks for a hidden partition on the hard drive which contains the complete install back to factory conditions.

As you can boot into Linux, or use a live CD can you post the results from GParted as to your hard drive partitions.

if this is a new PC, you might need SATA drivers. SATA came out after XP was released , and it doesn't recognize SATA without the correct drivers. If it is SATA, you need to find the correct drivers, and install them via floppy, OR streamline the drivers into an XP disc.

I had to do this with a Toshiba laptop...which doesnt have a floppy. Was a very enlightening experience.

**If you have a RESTORE disc from the manufacturer, it should work**
