windows runner
HelloI have a computer with Windows 2000 installed, it has a Toshiba Model. SD W 2002. DVD-RAM installed and also a Ricoh Model. MP7040A. CD-R/RW fitted. The DVD Ram is fitted as the master and the CD the slave on the second IDE connector to the Motherboard.I have tried to play DVD,s upon the DVD-RAM PLAYER, to read files from them but it will not recognise them. The error message for Drive E:/ is not accessible. Invalid access to memory location. The DVD-RAM will happily play CD,s and also recognise a DVD-RAM disk and write to the later. The CD player runs and burns CD,s and also plays music CD,s it is the only player set for sound use with the computers built in sound card. Both DVD-RAM and C-R/RW are recognised in the System hardware screen and show as working properly. Could someone please tell me what I should do to correct this.Thank you Windows Runner.

windows runner
Has it ever played/read DVDs ?Have you updated the firmware for this drive ?Its original spec is below.Hiwhen first used I only used it with the DVD-RAM disk supplied in the cartridge for backing up my files. I have only ever read CDs from the drive apart from reading the DVD-RAM after backing up.The firmware I have never touched and do not know where to start .Thank you. windows runner
The device must be about 6 years old ?Is the IDE cable firmly connected at both the motherboard and Optical drive ends ?Have you ever tried cleaning the laser ?Helloyes connected both ends of the cable correctly. I have not tried any form of cleaner yet.Thank you. Well I have also had some success. I have used CCleaner at the suggestion of another forum member to defrag the system. This improved the start and closing of the system a lot thanks. The computer has been used two more times start and stop.Got a copy of the magazine "PC Plus" and on this has a DVD, stuck to it each month. Good magazine, and decided to try the DVD, notexpecting much. Well it works had a look at a few files and then went to close the session and got an error message.STOP: 0X00000050 (0XF0008040, 0X00000000, 0XBFC2B804, 0X00000000)Address BFC2B804 base at BFBFA000, Date Stamp 3a1d0dfb - vobiw.sysIt appears that the Instant write software is only allowing it self access to the drive for DVD,s. Found a check box saying allow IW with a check against itSo I unchecked this tried again and the drive is now reading all forms of DVD that I have. Uncertain why the magazine disk workedbut the error message made me look again at the software again, I hope this has cured my problem, will know after a few reboots.I have even burnt an ISO image from a DVD to a CD-R all correct and tested. I hope this may help someone else in a similarSituation.WR. :D
