Fiirnok
A few months ago (around the same time I put in my new video card) my CD Write/DVD Rom stopped reading DVDs & PC DVDs. I've done the trouble shooting, installed various decoders and drivers, updated windows countless times but to no avail. It will still read CDs, but refuses to read DVDs. It really hasnt been that big of an issue until today when I bough Age of Conan (PC DVD) and it wont read the disk. Any ideas?Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2Compaq Presario AMD Sempron Processor 3400+ 1.80 GHz, 1.25GB RAM
-pops-
Most optical disk readers/writers use a separate laser diode for the two types of media that they read. It is quite feasible that the one that reads DVDs has failed with the other one still operative. This explanation seems even more reasonable as you have tried all the usual remedies (and more).A new device wouldn't cost very much - you might even promote yourself to a DVD/CD burner. Smokin32
I had 2 dvd players that did the same thing. They could read cd roms but the part that read DVDs died.
