XP Stalls

Hi Folks

I have an intermittent problem when starting XP SP2. I get to the user window and log in OK but often when it gets to the Desktop it freezes (including the music doing a fair impression of MaxHeadroom!). I am unable to use keyboard or mouse. If I power down and restart Windows runs it usual checks and starts back to the log in window. I have found if I switch of there using the turn off icon in the bottom left and restart all over it usually runs OK, but not always.

Anybody come across this before?

Jensen

Hello Jensen. Of course you shouldn't have this problem, but you should deal with it as it's likely to get worse.

First, have you backed up all your important data?

Second, have you scanned for viruses and malware?

If you haven't done these things please do them in the above sequence & fellow any instructions about removing malware, etc.

If you still have the problem after that I suggest you run System Restore to a time before this problem started.

If that doesn't solve the problem (or you don't have a suitable Restore Point) please try starting in Safe Mode. Do you get the same problems at the Safe Mode desktop?

Please post your responses back to this thread & we'll take it from there.

If you don't know how to do any of these things, please post back here also.
