Incompatible CD's/Drive

Recommended Posts

Just bought (and opened) sone CD-RW to backup some data and have noticed they say in very very small writing that they will only play on Ultra-Speed drives they are 24x speed. Lo and behold can't seem to write data to them.

OK I can write that off to experience, but how do I find what speed my current drive is capable of?

Having looked at hardware descriptions etc. found a setting that went up to 10x but was actually set at "fastest" do I take from that, that 10x is my drive limit and buy CD's accordingly?

You are correct - your maximum re-write speed with that drive is 10x

- as far as I know the 24x speed that you refer to is the read speed ?

Your drive is a combo CD-RW/DVD-ROM unit and has :-

Read Speed 24x (CD) / 8x (DVD)

Write Speed 16x (CD)

Re-write Speed 10x (CD-RW)

What brand are the CD-RWs that you have ?

What software are you using to write the discs ?

From memory, if you are trying to use CD-RWs then they need to be formatted first ?????

Memorex 24x Ultra Speed

Think I was just trying a "send to" on a music file
