How to Activate Video/Audio Streaming Capabilities

What settings do I need to enable so that when I click on a hyperlink that is supposed to activate a video or audio file, it begins to play that file rather than provide a dialog box that indicates that the file is downloading? On most computers, when I click on such a link (let's say to a Windows video file with an extension .wmv), the Windows Media Player comes up and I can see the video (while the buffer approaches 100%). However, on my home computer, something is not set up properly because when I click on the same link, the system wants to download the entire file first rather than play it. Can anyone help? Thanks.
