Cant save changes in office

Hi all

I am new here and I hope you can solve my problem is I am going mad about it. :censored:

I just upgraded my 2000 server a few days ago with an additional 1GB RAM. So files reside on this server and clients are a mixture of XP/2000.

After some days some users reported that they cannot save changes on their documents (XLS, DOC mostly). They have full rights on their respective folder and some of the files are shared by more than one user. When viewed from computer management > open files the files giving trouble have # locks set to 3 but they are still write+read...

The error reported can be viewed at : http://img239.imageshack.us/img239/4041/53341619hm5.jpg and attached too

Changes done are saved in a gibberish named temp file and this goes on and on....

I changed usernames, file paths, reinstalled client...all to no avail...PLS HELP ME :(

The message indicates a sharing violation, meaning the document is open by another user, or has not been released after being opened by another user.

But the funny thing is that the file is not open by anyone else other than the user having the problem!! In fact when I view with computer management the open files session the user is the only one accessing the file in question.

Have a look if this gives you additional info http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/813973/, although you wrote that you have already checked all the permissions.

If that doesn't help, check if any of these Google results give you more information.

I have looked at some of the Google results yesterday, and many of the mention McAfee as the source of the problem. Do you have McAfee installed (what exactly)? Did you try to disable it?

Tried everything problem persists...

Any more help is warmly welcomed

It's a bit difficult to give you more advice if we don't know what you have already tried (everything?).

Actually the restart did not solve the problem at all. I had to install SP3 for Office XP on all clients and problem to save seems to be have been solved but I still have a problem on the server side.

I cannot copy some of the files of a user from a folder to another as its saying that the file is in use (where actually the file is NOT)...I also cant delete some files...

Is there something I could do? server is running 2000 SP4
