zzr
Running XP SP2 and task manager is showing Explorer.exe constantly using 47-50% CPU as is System idle process . I can't see any other programs running, the local area connection icon will often show a constant flow of traffic but disabling this makes no difference to the CPU usage for Explorer. Tried ending most processes in task manager but again makes no difference. There must be something running in the background but I can't see what. Any suggestion??RegardsBrian

zzr
Managed to solve the problem. After using numerous spyware and virus checkers I tracked down a trojan in system32. So far everything is fine again, thanks for your input.RegardsBrian
