WIA Service corrupt -- Can't fix it

Recommended Posts

Hello,

When I installed Windows XP PRO about 6 months ago, the install hung on the WIA registry file, so I just skipped over it. I recently tried to hook up my Canon digital camera, and sure enough, it won't work without the WIA service. I tried to reinstall WIA off the OS cd, but got an error saying that the install could not continue because my current version of XP (SP 3) is newer than the CD version (which is the original version, no SP).

How can I go about fixing WIA without reinstalling everything? Is there an easy fix for this?

Update: I was able to get the SP2 disk to do a repair install, but when the computer finished the repair and restarted, WIA still wouldn't work (can't find the file). Why didn't the repair install add WIA?

WIA is dependent on the RPC service - is this running ?

Yes, RPC is running fine. Like I said, when I originally installed Windows, the install kept hanging on WIASERVICE, so I skipped it. I tried doing a repair install using a different disk, but it didn't install the file. How do I make WIA install on my computer?
