JF28West Posted August 20, 2008 Report Share Posted August 20, 2008 Hey guys, I have an issue & I was hoping someone could try to resolve. In a nutshell, I manage a small business LAN with a mix of XP, Vista, & Server 2003 machines. All our user accounts have the standard roaming profiles setup. Now, the XP machines have no problems at all with roaming profiles. My dilemma is strictly with Vista SP1 machines. I read through some 30-40 articles (both MS & non-MS support) to no avail. Here's what happens.I create a user account on a Vista machine. I then copy the local profile over to the server so the user has a roaming account (and I set the option to roaming as well). This works perfectly well & I've had no issues with this to date. The problem is when I take that same user and try to log them on to a different Vista SP1 machine. The Event Viewer generates a 1521 error with User Profile Service as the application and ultimately the reason is Access is Denied. So, I verified that all permissions on the share itself, the parent folder & each user folder are correct using an MS article as a guideline. They're all correct. I checked the registry on all the Vista machines to verify any incorrect keys for the ProfileList. That's all well & fine. I then started to place this user in different groups to see if there's still a chance of some permissions error somewhere down the pipeline. Well, there is but, I 'm not sure what it is.Here's the thing. If I set Everyone to Full Control on the share, parent folder, and subfolders on the server hosting the roaming profile folders. And I also give this user Administrative rights on the Local Vista machine where I'm trying to log them on, it still won't load the profile correctly. However, if I add this same user to the Domain Admins group, the profile loads correctly. Where exactly is this permissions error? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
JF28West Posted August 22, 2008 Author Report Share Posted August 22, 2008 Well, I finally located the issue that was causing roaming profiles to fail. While permissions on the parent profile folders were correct, not all subfolders inherited the correct permissions. After reapplying settings to subfolders, all is well.
