Auddasea Posted August 21, 2008 Report Share Posted August 21, 2008 I went to re-install windows on a friends computer and when installing it told me I couldn't because the computer could not detect a internal HHD..All fine and dandy..Took the hard drive to my computer, installed windows...everything went spiffy...clean install...no problems...Took it back to my friends computer...it's in a loop now..Goes past BIOS and to the windows loading screen with the loading scroll bar.....than cpu turns off and restarts...What the hell?!?!?!Any ideas, suggestioins....I've never seen this before?!??! KevK Posted August 21, 2008 Report Share Posted August 21, 2008 i agree with Auddasea, if the bios cannot detect the hard drive, it cannot read it, is the Hard drive an IDE or a SATA ??thats one thing to check first, and if you take your hard drive to your friends computer, unless it is an identical machine you will get a loop, the settings and components are saved in the configuration when xp installs, transfering the hard disk to another machine doesnt work !!With the hard disk, i have both IDE and Sata, ide detect on bios and read on start up the sata is only detected when it goes to the next step and reads the Sata bios, if your hard disk is Sata then make sure your bios is set to enabled for sata.if you can get your computer to detect your hard drive, then to make it work on your computer is to either repair your copy of xp or clean install again.hope you can figure out from thisRegards Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Scarecrow Man Posted August 21, 2008 Report Share Posted August 21, 2008 If you install Windows on an environment and move that installation to another environment chances are it will not work. You will mainly notice this when taking an installation done on an AMD processor to an installation with an Intel processor. The hardware is totally different and often Windows will not know how to handle the new hardware all at once. You should install Windows while it is attached to the original computer. If this will not work, you must resolve the BIOS not seeing the drive before you continue. Make sure you jumpers are set correctly on the drive. I generally select the 'cable select' setting for all drives so there is no confusion when installing two masters or two slaves. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
pa1916 Posted August 25, 2008 Report Share Posted August 25, 2008 You can't install XP on a HD via your computer and then install that drive on your friends computer it won't work thats why you have a loop.Sorry if i've miss read your thread.
