Music Programs Stopping

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I have posted this letter on my Music program (Cubase) site and they have sent me here. I would love to sort this problem out and would be very appreciative. In addition to this problem I have been getting pop ups from my CA virus protection saying Blocked UDP Port 445. An ASUS (motherboard) screen also popped up asking something about my media players which I just ignored as at the time my computer was working fine and I didn't want to change any settings.

Hi all wondering if anyone can help.

I have been using Cubase 4 now for a few months with no problems. My computer is brand new and I only use it for Cubase and Ableton. This morning I updated to 4.5.2 (or whatever the last update was). Then open up a track I have been working on and after a little while whopp! Cubase dissapears. I restart the program and whoopp! gone again. Even if I open the program and don't touch anything it dissapears. I then tried to open past projects and the same thing happens in all except for 1. That one works fine.

When it crashes there are no warnings or error messages.

I then get the sh$ts with Cubase decide to work on an old project in Ableton and the same thing happens. After opening the programs many times to try and pinppoint the problem I got 1 windows error message as it crashed the whole computer. error message as follows.

Error Code:

BCCode : cb BCP1 : B9D7B675 BCP2 : B9D781CF BCP3 : 88E11618

BCP4 : 0000003E OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 3_0 Product : 256_1

The Following FIles will be included in this error report:

C:\DOCUME~1\MR1656~1.USE\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERea5b.dir00\Mini092208-01.dmp

C:\DOCUME~1\MR1656~1.USE\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERea5b.dir00\sysdata.xml

I have tried reinstalling cubase (so I am now back to the initial cubase 4.1) and I have reinstalled and updated my m-audio drivers. I have also updated my windows update.

After many attempts and with no error messages coming up and having not done anything to my computer before this happened I ask if anyone could help me out so I can get back to work. I am not throwing my toys at Cubase just want to know how to fix the problem and thought I would ask Cubase as the problem appeared straight after downloading the latest update.

Can anyone please help me?

Thank you.

You say you have re-installed CuBase. Did you remove the previous version first or re-install over the top?

Do you have a backup of your system that will take you back to a time before these problems started (before you updated to the latest version)?

If you don't have a backup (I very strongly recommend that you prepare one and keep it up to date) then can you system Restore to a previous time before the problems?

Personally, I'm very old fashioned in regard to updates on software. If my system is operating as I want it to and there isn't anything world shattering improvement that I can't do without in new versions, I leave well alone. Even if I am tempted, I ALWAYS make a backup AND System Restore before installing.

I am very surprised that CuBase sent you here. You are, of course, very welcome but I get the impression somewhat that they are trying to fob you off. It is their software that is causing you problems so it is their responsibility to correct that.

Welcome to the Windows Forum.

I agree with everything that -pops- wrote in his post (except that I think updating your application software can be very beneficial, e.g. additional functions, bugfixes, etc.). Taking a full backup before a software update/upgrade is essential if you want to keep a working production system.

When Cubase "disappears", can you go and check the Event Viewer if anything has been recorded for the time of the disappearance?

Also, have you tried the steinberg.net Support site for information on your problem?

P.S. what is your service/patch level of Windows?
