MS word Tables

Hello - I don't know if this is the right forum, but here goes:

I've been struggling with MS Word Tables for years now, and everytime I use them it drives me crazy. Basically, I just want to resize the columns to suit my needs, but everytime I try, the whole table gets jacked up. I've tried dragging the column lines, useing column size in Table Properties, using the ruler, but nothing works. Does anyone know how to get the Tables to behave??

Word tables are very different from standard HTML tables - you can see how they are constructed when saving a Word document as .htm, then look at the source. This all makes basic table manipulation very difficult.

If I need to create a table that suits my needs, I just use a basic HTML editor instead of Word.

Don't know whether this helps but, did you know you can put a table inside a table>

For example, if you want a cell with an extra column all you need do is create a table of one row and two columns within that cell.

If you want to change the width of a column on a single cell, hover the cursor at the edge of the cell until a black arrow appears the click. This will highlight the cell and you can then change to column width of that cell alone in the usual way.

Its quite annoying thing to work with Tables in MS Word, But following 2 options will help you to reduce your troublesome.

1) Refer to first attached figure, Here you can split the cell, so that you can create multiple columns in one column itself. (So it'd satisfy your requirement about table in a column)

2) Refer to second attached figure, instead of resizing column by using mouse, I'll suggest you to resize them with specific required width value.
