task bar

One day my task bar suddenly showed up vertically on the right side of my screen. Maybe the kids dod something weird?

It was always on the bottom of the screen and horizontal.

I can not make it move back to the bottom of the screen where I want it to reside in horizontal view.

Any guidance kmuch appreciated.

Welcome to the Windows Forum.

The taskbar can be drag-and-dropped to any side of the Windows desktop, or in fact anywhere on the desktop itself. Just left-click anywhere on the taskbar, then drag-and-drop it back to where you want to have it.

Unless it's locked. Right-click on the taskbar, and see if 'Lock the Taskbar' is checked.

Once you have placed it back where you want it, it's perhaps a good idea to lock it then.

When dragging it, it will not appear to move until you release it. Having done this, it's perhaps best if it's a decent computer to keep the kids off it. My thirteen year old granddaughter is excellent on the computer and has my complete trust. The four year old however is NEVER allowed on my computer, she has done enough damage in the past to my daughters computer, with me having to put it right. :D

Thanks Gentlemen. I had been trying to do that, but I did not know to drag and hold on and then release...it did not look like it was working. My 83 yr old father actually did it....ha!

Got it.

It is not as narrow or skinny as it used to be, but I am gonna lock it now.

You can also resize it with a similar technique (when unlocked). Put the cursor at the upper boundary of the taskbar - it will show a cursor like ↕. Left-click and hold, then drag the boundary up or down to make it wider or narrower. Then lock it again.
