Hi all,

I want to setup a windows server with a couple of services but I am not sure which operating system to use and which applications to use. I was thinking of just getting windows sever 2008.

Here is what I want to do:

web server

ftp server

mail server (with imap support)

file server (also want to access files from over the internet)

proxy server (for my pc's to connect to from the internal LAN)

I would appreciate any help or references

Thank you.

Any server will do it

If you need a Windows environment I recommend Win2003 - with all the latest patches it can be relatively secure and do what you need , however it's quite expensive , you can achieve the same things with any free version of Linux (+better security on a default install) .

You don't need a special software to run a file server , in fact you can probably do everything with winXP though there will be a limit on the number of connections allowed to your server.

For running web server use apache
