I was thinking of just getting windows sever 2008.Here is what I want to do:web serverftp servermail server (with imap support)file server (also want to access files from over the internet)proxy server (for my pc's to connect to from the internal LAN)I would appreciate any help or referencesThank you. Seshomaru Samma Posted October 11, 2008 Report Share Posted October 11, 2008 Any server will do itIf you need a Windows environment I recommend Win2003 - with all the latest patches it can be relatively secure and do what you need , however it's quite expensive , you can achieve the same things with any free version of Linux (+better security on a default install) .You don't need a special software to run a file server , in fact you can probably do everything with winXP though there will be a limit on the number of connections allowed to your server.For running web server use apache Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
