Aryon984 Posted October 16, 2008 Report Share Posted October 16, 2008 Okay, I've had my PC (Windows XP) for a couple of months now, since approximately July of this year.Anyway, only yesterday I got a little icon appearing in my tray with a little pop up message saying "You have 29 days to activate windows"At first, I was thinking it may be a possible Virus or Spyware, however after a thorough scan, it came up clean.Now, I hadn't updated my computer in about 2 months. So the day before it started happening, I let it update. It downloaded the Service Pack 3, then asked to reboot. I let it do it, but then turned my PC off right after I logged in. Next morning, there was the pop-up.And the problem is, that I can't call the guy who made the computer and installed the OS, as he recently died of a heart attack. So I went looking and found this forum.. So, does anyone know if this is a legit mess-up, virus, or if it seriously needs to be activated... I don't know why you didn't get this prompt earlier.Just follow the procedure, and if your Windows installation is genuine, then it will be activated free of cost. Not to mention I was expecting some long and painful process that required an activation key that I didn't have.. But nope, just click, click, type, click, voile!Thanks a lot, really appreciate it.
