EmissionImpossible Posted October 20, 2008 Report Share Posted October 20, 2008 I have a Toshiba laptop and my Windows 2000 is buggered. I have the option to load two operating systems when I turn the laptop on; Windows 2000 and Windows XP. Windows XP runs so slowly it’s unbelievable and freezes repeatedly. Windows 2000 is the real problem. When I select Windows 2000 to load it comes up with the following error.\winnt\system32\config\system missing or corruptI have lost the Windows 2000 disk, so cant use that. Some boot managers hide other boot partitions, but if you use the standard Windows Boot Manager, you should be able to see all other partitions. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb Posted October 23, 2008 Report Share Posted October 23, 2008 You don't have to follow the instructions *exactly* as written in option 4; you don't remove your hard drive, just start from paragraph 4 (inside option 4), and where it says "another hard drive", let it just mean "another partition". pa1916 Posted October 23, 2008 Report Share Posted October 23, 2008 First it's not a good idea to run W2000 Pro i asume that is what your Laptop came with and WXP you require at least 500mb of Ram for WXP you can still purchase W2000 now on extended support but you will require the MOBO disk that came with your computer,W2000 is a pain to setup at the best of times. Can you give us some more info, e.g.how many partitions do you have?what are the names and contents of these partitions? Also, what are the drive letters of these partitions?is there any partition with a WINNT folder on its root?It would also help if you could list the contents of your boot.ini file, although it may be a little difficult for you to locate it, as it is a hidden file, either on your 2000 or XP partition.
